Steering Committee

In the Summer of 2008, a group of leaders in jazz joined together, organized by Mary Jo Papich and Dr. Lou Fischer, to dream up the organization that is now the Jazz Education Network (JEN). Their vision created JEN’s mission statement and paved the way for a global organization dedicated to building the jazz arts community by advancing education, promoting performance, and developing new audiences.

May 31 & June 1, 2008

To all Dream Team members….

We appreciate your interest in being proactive in filling the void left in jazz education created recently.

As discussed with most of you by this point, we have been hard at work researching, pulling together, and formulating ideas related to creating a NEW organization. We feel it is important to articulate to each of you that this is not a rebirth of, nor a reformation of the old organization. This is by design, a NEW venture in support of jazz and jazz education.

FYI, an effort has been made to balance the attendees at the organizational meetings to include academic representatives, industry representatives, artist representatives; people with business experience, legal expertise, not for profit management experience, et al. We feel very comfortable, excited and proud of the prestigious group of individuals we have assembled. Your generous gift of time, commitment, expertise, and personal $ to this monumental task will be appreciated by many in the years to come! We look forward to meeting all of you and creating what we truly believe will be the world’s leading jazz education network.

We plan to meet on Saturday, May 31st from 9am-5pm (evening if needed) and Sunday, June 1st from 9am-3pm. Please plan your airline flights accordingly. We recommend flying in on Friday evening and leaving on Sunday evening.

Please DO let us know you are coming! We need YOU! and are counting on YOU!

In continued support of jazz and jazz education we remain…

Sincerely Yours,

Dr. Lou Fischer and Mary Jo Papich
